Commercial Ceiling Tile Installation

01

Preparation

The first step of installing a new drop ceiling is to take measurements to determine the size of the room. Once we’ve measured out the room, we’ll order all materials necessary to install your new commercial ceiling tiles. We can provide several recommendations on which type of ceiling tile may be right for you and your situation.

During the preparation stage of your commercial ceiling tile installation, we cover the floor and all surfaces with plastic sheathing. This makes sure that any dust or debris that comes down from the ceiling during the installation process.

02

Perimeter/Fixtures

Once we’ve measured out the room and have all the materials in place, we officially start the construction process. The first step is to install the wall mounts for the grid. This allows for the cross tees to be mounted to the wall. These are what provides structural support to the weight of the ceiling tiles. Then we run the cross-tees (runners) perpendicular to the wall mounts. Then we suspend the cross-tees using a heavy duty wire. The ceiling is held up by the wall mounts and the ceiling grid wire, providing a clean appearance to guests and tenants.

After the grid is in place, then we move on to installing other items that we need to have in the ceiling. This usually consists of items for your lighting and venting. For example, you may want a specialty spot light to make a piece of art shine and several louvers for air circulation.

03

Tiles

Tiles After the grid is in place and the fixtures are installed, we then move on to installing the ceiling tiles. Using the ceiling tiles we’ve selected for your needs, we cut and measure them to make sure they fit perfectly into the grid. With everything lined up, it becomes a fairly simple process to cut and lay tile.

After we’ve installed all of your ceiling tile, we take up all the plastic from the preparation stage, dust everything off, and then do a final walkthrough.

Drop Ceiling

A drop ceiling, also known as a suspended ceiling, is a secondary ceiling that is suspended from the main ceiling structure by a grid of metal frames. The grid is supported by wires and is typically installed several inches below the main ceiling, creating a space between the two. The drop ceiling panels, which are made of various materials such as mineral fiber, metal, or plastic, are inserted into the grid and can be easily removed and replaced when necessary. This feature makes drop ceilings popular in commercial and residential spaces where access to the ceiling is required for maintenance or repair.

Suspended Ceiling

In addition to accessibility, drop ceilings also offer benefits such as improved acoustics, thermal insulation, and enhanced aesthetics. They can be customized to fit any design or style preference, making them a versatile option for interior spaces. Overall, suspended ceilings are a practical and functional choice for those looking to improve the functionality and appearance of their ceilings while maintaining easy access to the main ceiling structure.

Drop Ceiling Tiles

Drop ceiling tiles are rectangular panels that fit into a grid system to create a suspended ceiling. They are available in various materials, such as mineral fiber, metal, PVC, and wood, and in a range of sizes and styles to suit different design needs. Drop ceiling tiles provide many benefits, including improved acoustics, insulation, and aesthetics. They can be easily removed and replaced, allowing for easy access to the ceiling for maintenance and repairs. Drop ceiling tiles are often used in commercial spaces, such as offices, schools, and hospitals, but they are also a popular choice for residential properties, especially in basements and other areas where access to the ceiling is necessary.

Drop Ceiling Grid

A drop ceiling grid is a framework of metal tracks and crossbars that is suspended from the ceiling and holds up individual ceiling tiles or panels. The tracks are attached to the ceiling using wires or hangers, and are spaced apart to create a grid pattern. Crossbars are then inserted into the tracks to form the individual grid squares, which are typically 2 feet by 2 feet or 2 feet by 4 feet in size. The ceiling tiles or panels are then placed into the grid squares and rest on the crossbars. The grid system allows for easy installation and removal of ceiling tiles, and provides a clean and uniform appearance to the ceiling.

False ceilings, also known as drop ceilings or suspended ceilings, are secondary ceilings that are installed below the original ceiling of a room. They are typically made from lightweight materials, such as gypsum board or metal tiles, and are suspended from the original ceiling using a grid of metal frames or wires.

There are four main types of ceiling tiles: acoustical, plastic, tin, and cork. Each has their own unique benefits.

Acoustical tiles are made of fiberglass or other absorbent materials, and are used to reduce noise levels in a room.

Plastic tiles are made of synthetic resins, and are often used in residential settings.

Tin tiles are made of metal, and are often used in commercial settings.

Cork tiles are made of, you guessed it, cork! These are often used in residential settings as well.

Most ceiling tiles are made of acoustic tiles which are specially designed to absorb sound. Yes, you can paint acoustic ceiling tiles, but you will need to use a special type of paint that is designed for this purpose. You can also purchase acoustic ceiling tiles that are already painted.
To cut ceiling tiles, you will need a sharp knife or a utility knife. You will also need a straight edge to help guide your cuts. First, mark the line where you want to make your cut. Then, place the straight edge on top of the tile and use it to guide your knife as you make your cut.
Ceiling tiles can be cleaned using a variety of methods. For example, you can use a soft cloth or brush to dust them off, or you can use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment to gently vacuum them. You can also clean ceiling tiles using a mild soap and water solution, being sure to rinse them well afterwards.
